Inclusion Statement

At Finedon Infant and Finedon Junior School we are committed to providing a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum that is appropriate to each individual child. All staff in school have a responsibility for maximising achievement and opportunity of all children.

We endeavour to achieve maximum inclusion of all children. Staff are aware of their responsibilities towards all vulnerable learners such as children with special educational needs or a disability (SEND), children for whom English is an additional language (EAL) and ‘looked after’ children (LAC) . Staff focus on individual progress as the main indicator of success. A positive and sensitive attitude is shown towards all children at all times.

Special Educational Needs and Disability

The schools’ approach is based on the government’s SEND Code of Practice. In this document, it states that a child has SEND if they have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for ‘special’ educational provision to be made for them as they have significantly greater difficulty in learning when compared to the majority of other children the same age.

A child with special educational needs may be experiencing difficulties with learning and communicating, behaviour or they may have a physical disability. These difficulties may be of a short or long-term nature and the child may require extra support in school. In such cases, a SEND Support Plan will be written which will identify the specific needs, set targets for the child and describe the support to be provided. If this support is not effective and problems persist, the school will consider applying for an Education and Health Care Plan for the child.

Please click here to see our Inclusion Policy for further details about Inclusion and Special Educational Needs. You may also find this brief guide to SEND useful Parents-SEN-Leaflet.

Our SENDCo. is Miss Felicity Pettitt and she can be contacted at the Infant School on 01933 680467 or by email at felicity.pettitt@iflt.org.uk.

Equal Opportunities Statement

At Finedon Infant and Finedon Junior School we are committed to ensuring equality of education and opportunity for all pupils, staff, parents and carers receiving services from the school. This is irrespective of race, gender, disability, faith, religion or socio-economic background. We aim to develop a culture of inclusion and diversity in which all those connected to the school feel proud of their identity and are able to participate fully in school life.

All schools have duties under the Equality Act 2010 towards individual disabled children and young people. They must make reasonable adjustments, including the provision of auxiliary aids and services for disabled children, to prevent them being put at a substantial disadvantage. These duties are anticipatory – they require thought to be given in advance to what disabled children and young people might require and what adjustments might need to be made to prevent that disadvantage.
