Modern Foreign Languages
The National Curriculum states that ‘Learning a foreign language is a liberation from insularity and provides an opening to other cultures.’ At Finedon Mulso Junior School, all children take part in French lessons designed to develop their language skills, but also to deepen their curiosity and understanding of the world. We make it a priority to ensure that pupils have a positive and enjoyable first encounter with foreign language learning, based on which they will hopefully feel driven to continue with language learning throughout secondary school and beyond.

Exposure to new and known children’s storybooks and songs is at the heart of our MFL curriculum. It allows children to develop their reading, listening and speaking skills within the contexts of known characters and scenarios, whilst also introducing some popular children’s stories and songs from French culture.
Below, are some of the stories that children will encounter in each year of their learning.
