Finedon Nursery - Opening September 2025

Welcome to our nursery.  From September 2025 we will provide high-quality early years education from the age of three, thereby securing excellent foundations for the children of Finedon and the surrounding area.

We will build strong and positive relationships with parents and their children from a younger age than the current Reception provision.

We know that young children learn best through play. Play will be at the heart of everything within our nursery, ensuring children develop and learn in a fun and engaging way.

At Finedon Nursery we have up to 76 part-time places (38 places in the morning and 38 in the afternoon). Children can attend either:

  • part time (morning 8:45 – 11:45 am /afternoon 12:15 – 3:15 pm) or
  • full time (8:45 am – 3:15 pm) or
  • a mixture of both mornings and afternoons

Our nursery will provide a stimulating, safe and spacious indoor and outdoor environment, enabling children to explore and play in a welcoming and caring setting.

Staffing

Our Nursery is led by a qualified teacher overseen by the Early Years Foundation Stage Lead. We follow all requirements and staffing ratios as set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework.

 Your entitlement

Our Nursery offers the full 15-hour and 30-hour government funded entitlement as follows:

  • Up to 15/30 hours can be used via a mixture of sessions each week, Monday to Friday, for 38 weeks a year, term time only.
  • To be eligible for the free entitlement children must have their third birthday before the 31st of the month prior to intake. Depending on spaces there will be an intake in September, January and April. Eligibility will be verified by families providing proof of address and birth certificate.
  • Please note that if you are claiming the 15/30 hours, there is an expectation that your child attends Nursery. Long periods of unsubstantiated absence may result in your place being given to another child and your funding will end.
  • If children are absent for a paid session, the fee still applies.

Eligibility

Parents/Carers must provide the Nursery with evidence of eligibility at the time an offer of a place is made and accepted (this can be checked via an online calculator, please visit: www.childcarechoices.gov.uk).

This eligibility will be confirmed again prior to children starting in Nursery and eligibility must be reconfirmed on a three-monthly basis. Failure to provide the eligibility code will result in a charge for the sessions.

Session Times

Morning session

08:45 -11:45 am - the site is open from 8:30am

Lunch

11:45 – 12:15pm - gate opens at 11:40am

Afternoon session

12:15 – 3:15pm - gate opens at 12:10pm

If children attend for any full days, parents have the option of collecting them for the lunch session (11:45 – 12:15) or, alternatively, leaving their child in Nursery for lunch. The parent/carer will provide a packed lunch.  Please note that your child must attend a minimum of three sessions each week.

Paid Sessions

Parents can pay for additional sessions. Any 3-hour sessions that your child attends, which are not covered by the 15-hour government funding, will be charged at £14.00 per session. Five sessions are covered by the free entitlement of 15 hours.

Parents whose children stay for the lunch session (bringing a packed lunch), but are not attending for a full day, are charged £2 per lunch session. Invoices will be sent out at the beginning of each month for that month. Any non-payment may result in a child losing their place at the Nursery.

Admissions for Nursery

Applying for a school place in Reception

Once nursery children reach school age, parents will still need to apply for a reception place through the usual admissions procedure. Being a member of our nursery does not guarantee you a place in Reception at Finedon Infant School. However, being part of the nursery will be beneficial when making the transition to the Reception classes.

Finedon Infant School is consistently rated good at Ofsted and has experienced early years practitioners working within the school, giving a solid foundation to introduce a school-based nursery. It will work closely with other trust schools to offer the highest quality provision.
